The Zeen Team
Zeen is a new product created by AVOS Systems, an Internet company led by YouTube co-founders Chad Hurley and Steve Chen. AVOS is headquartered in San Mateo, California, with additional offices in Beijing, China, and Dunedin, New Zealand. We’re always looking for talented individuals to join our growing team, so please check out our current job openings!
Tim
Tim joined AVOS through the Trunk.ly acquisition and moved from Melbourne, Australia with his family to work from San Mateo in March 2012. He enjoys creating obscure zeens, first person shooters, and working with the best team ever. Wrangles Zeen engineers.
Lucy
Lucy comes from Virginia. She came to Zeen as a developer, soon after finishing her undergraduate degree in computer science. She enjoys cooking, reading, and traveling in her spare time, and is trying to get better at yoga when she can. Recently moved to New "Zeen"land.
Josh
Josh started working as part of AVOS officially the day before Christmas 2011. He likes working on all aspects of web development and works out of the New Zealand office. Josh has an identical twin so if you're trying to say 'hi' to him and you're getting a blank look… it could possibly be his twin.
Jessie
Jessie is the Community and Content Manager at Zeen. If a Zeenster has some feedback, a problem, or just wants to say hi, she’s there. She is the resident music zeenmaker, wildly consumes films and novels, and is beyond excited about the potential and future of multimedia.
Brent
Brent does a little bit of this and a little bit of that, from watching over the company finances to running point on marketing/business affairs/content partnerships/etc. He enjoys espresso, the great outdoors, long distance running, and handcrafted microbrews.
Jingyu
Jingyu is our senior software engineer. He had been working for the world's largest companies like Microsoft (Research) and Amazon( San Francisco). Then he chose to join startups like Foursquare( San Francisco) and now AVOS Systems. He wants to turn technology into something easy to use and easy to forget.
Ben
Ben loves to code, ever since he first discovered he could bend computers to his will using Basic at school (and forcing schoolmates to try playing his poorly written text-adventure game.) His hobbies include illustration, videogaming and growing delicious tomatoes in his glasshouse.
Steve
Steve Chen is the co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of AVOS Systems Inc. Steve and fellow co-founder Chad Hurley purchased Delicious.com from Yahoo! in April 2011, rebuilt the site from the ground up, and re-launched it in September 2011 as a way to discover and collect the web. In 2005, Steve and Chad co-founded YouTube, the world's largest video site, which was sold to Google in 2006 for $1.76 billion. Steve served as Chief Technology Officer of YouTube until 2009, and remained an advisor for Google Ventures until 2010. Prior to YouTube, Steve was one of the first product engineers at PayPal. He studied Computer Science at the University of Illinois.
Gerwin
Gerwin studied design then web programming and instantly knew that this is what he wanted to do. After working for a medium sized web development studio, he started a company with two others before joining the Zeen team. Gerwin enjoys all aspects of building online apps with a focus on front end engineering. When he’s not behind the screen he can be found shooting arrows at the Archery range and he loves drinking tea, especially Earl Grey.
Vlad
Vlad's designed and developed apps in all kinds of languages since he was 14 years old. Between 2004 and 2007, he created a favorite last-second bidding app for over a thousand paying users of eBay, Yahoo! auctions and Overstock called Spoof-Proof WinSnipe. He also brings experience from Brightcove, Justin.tv, Wolfram Alpha, and MassMutual Financial Group. Vlad holds a B.S in Computer Science and B.S. in Mathematics, both with honors, from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
Ryan
Ryan is an Art Director with over 7 years of diverse experience, ranging from Social Gaming to Mobile App and Responsive Web Design to User Experience and Advertising. Ryan began his career in the video game industry as a Quality Assurance tester (which he cites as evidence of his Tekken skills). His current passion is coffee, from start to finish. He custom roasts green coffee beans in his home roaster, then brews up coffee drinks in his espresso machine. Ryan also runs up and down the Embarcadero for exercise ( read “punishment”) and enjoys good whiskeys.
